Meet Rachel
Hi, I’m Rachel, and I like nothing more than listening to people, hearing their voices, understanding their starting point and where they want to go, and helping them get there. My obsession with the voice started in college, where I was studying Applied Math and Computer Science, but also taking voice lessons on the side. Wow, feeling the voice in the body, making sound, changing sound: that physical act was just SO MUCH FUN.
I decided to add a music major as well and went straight to graduate school where I got a Master of Music with Distinction in Opera Performance. I spent a decade studying foreign language, traveling and living abroad, and working with some of the most talented opera teachers and coaches around.
I believe my years as a classically-trained opera singer is one of the secret ingredients in how I’m able to successfully teach thousands of students how to pronounce English using the mechanics of the vocal chords and mouth—not just learning through memorization.

Learn to feel your
voice differently
I’ll never forget a moment from a voice lesson where I FELT and heard what a tiny change in the body can do.
I was working on the aria “Durch Zärtlichkeit und Schmeicheln” from the Mozart opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail, which goes up to a high E (E6). Now, I was a high soprano, so this note didn’t intimidate me: I had it, I loved it. But something about the approach, the notes before the high E, were making this note sound just ‘good’. I wanted more than ‘good’, and my teacher wanted that too.
She gave me a tiny tweak: try putting just the tiniest bit of space between your front top teeth and the inside of your top lip. I took a breath, I sang the phrase ending with these three high E’s, and they were pristine. I remember a beat of silence and my teacher saying, “first class.” I love finding these tiny tweaks for my students. Some little key that unlocks a whole different sound. When they feel it in their bodies, they know.
