CITY = don’t forget that Flap T, and that IH as in SIT vowel can be tricky. I’ve got you covered. 🙂 #EnglishPronunciation
Video Text:Â
It’s time for another minute or less English lesson.
I came all the way to New York City to talk to you about the pronunciation the word “City”.
This is a word that I hear mispronounced a lot in my students, there are 2 reasons. One, the vowel and the stressed syllable that should be ih not ee.
ih,ih. The tongue isn’t as closed to the roof of the mouth.
Ih, sit.
So there’s just a little bit more space between the tongue and the roof of the mouth for the ih as in sit vowel and just a little bit more jaw drop.
ih, si, city. It’s a little bit more relaxed. Then that t, that should not be t, a true t but it should be a flap t because it comes between two vowel sounds (flap).
Can you do that? (flap)
City
Welcome to New York City.
